Assassination attempts in 1853
On February 18, 1853, Emperor Franz Josef survived an assassination attempt on Hungarian nationalist János Libényi. The incident occurred when the king was walking around the castle of Vienna with one of his guards, when suddenly Livni approached him. The emperor recoiled as soon as he noticed the knife he was holding in his hand. Luckily, his collar which was made of strong metal protected his neck almost completely, and although he was injured and bleeding his life was saved.
